1881 census for Birse shows William Knox (grocer aged 58) and Margaret Harper (56) residing at Drumhead with children Mary (18) Francis (16) Isabella (14) Fanny (12) William (11) his brother Francis Knox (tailor aged 62) and Robert Hogg Calder Unmarried Minister of the Established Church Finzean Chapel as lodger.
