William Ferries -m- Elspet Masson

 

June 6 1807:  Contracted William Ferries and Elspet Masson both in this parish and after regular proclamations and no objections made married 23rd June.

February 16 1809: William Ferries Glenchatt had a daughter baptised named Christian. Witnesses Peter Ewan and Peter Coutts (personal comment:  Peter Coutts is married to Christian Ferries, William and Christian may be siblings)

 

Christian married Alexander Troup on 6 September 1830 in Tarland & Migvie (IGI)  

 

1803 12 Feb:  Hary Troup in Tillykarmok had a son baptised and named Alexander. Witnesses Jas McCombie & Charles McCombie both in Newseat. (Coull Parish Registers)

    Male 68 years

    Parents: Harry Troup, farmer (deceased) and Ann Troup m.s. McCombie (deceased)

    Cause: Calculus vericera upwards of five years. Suppression of urine after operation as certified

                by William Pirie MD

    Alexander's will was proved in Aberdeen on 24 October 1871.

 

Coull Kirkyard

In memory of ALEXANDER TROUP late farmer in Stoneyford d. 16 Dec 1870 aged 68.  Of his family JOHN, JAMES, ANN & ALEXANDER all d. in infancy, BARBARA d. 3 Oct 1866 aged 34, JANE d. 14 June 1867 aged 16.  CHRISTIAN FERRIES relict of the late ALEXANDER TROUP d. 1 July 1897 aged 85.

October 26 1810: Wm Ferris in Glenchatt had a child baptised named Elspet before witnesses Peter Ewan and Alexr Ley both in said place

 

3.  William

 

September 4 1813: William Ferris in Glenchatt had a son baptised named William. Peter Ewan and Peter Couts both in said place witnesses.

 

4.  Barbara

 

September 3 1814: William Ferris in Glenchatt and his wife Elspeth Masson had a child baptised named Barbara. Peter Ewan and Peter Couts in said place witnesses

It would appear that Barbara had an illegitimate daughter, Ann, born Towie 1837 by Alexander Meston (this register has not been checked).  Ann is living with Barbara on 1841 - 1871 census. 

 

Barbara married Charles Farquharson


1849 August 23rd Charles Farquharson & Barbara Ferries both in this Parish having deposited pledges have been proclaimed were married.

Charles and Barbara had no issue.  Checking all census, Barbara still referred to herself as Farquharson but they were not living together.

1881 census residing at 43 Skene Street, Aberdeen, annuitant.

Female 77 years

Cause:  Heart disease - years as cert by Geo J Fraser MD

5.  Peter

 

Peter Ferries was baptised 11 Mar 1816 in Birse.  He married Isabella McAndrew 7 April 1859 in Tarland (IGI).  Peter died 25 Mar 1875 at Mill of Culsh Tarland.  (Tarland & Migvie #4)

December 12 1817  William Ferries Glenchatt and his wife Elspet Masson had a son baptised named James. Peter Ewan and Peter Couts both in Glenchatt witnesses.

 

    1851 census, James is a master miller residing at Mill of Kinnernie, Midmar.

 

7.  George

 

July 10 1819:  William Ferris in Glenchatt and his wife Elspet Masson had a child baptised named George – before the congregation.

 

    1851 census lodger at Aultroy (Aboyne) with the family of Duncan Lumsden.  Occupation wright.

    1861 residing with his sister - Christian Ferries (spouse Alexander Troup) in Coull

 

8.  John

 

Feb 20 1821 William Ferris in Glenchatt and his wife Elspet Mason had a son baptised named John. Peter Couts and Jas Ewen in said place witnesses.

 

    1851 census Cluny residing at Mill Corskie, John Ferries, servant aged 30 miller.

October 5 1822: William Ferris in Glenchatt and his wife Elspet Mason had a daughter baptised named Mary. James Ewan and Peter Couts in said place witnesses.

July 21 1824: William Ferris in Glenchatt and his wife Elspet Masson had a child baptised named Margaret. James Ewan and Peter Couts both in said place were witnesses.
